ACT prep in Sugar Land, TX

As we are well into December, winter break is coming up soon, and if you’re a senior in high school, you should definitely consider taking some of this time to apply for colleges. If you’ve not started the process yet, it’s important to remember that colleges and universities generally have an October and January application deadline. It is not too late for the January deadline, but you should act fast. The Tutoring Center in Sugar Land would like to share some great tips to help get you prepared for the college application process. Read further if you’re interested in some help with this somewhat confusing matter.

First steps

Start by writing down the names of colleges that you’d like to apply for and checking out their website for their admission requirements. Write down the requirements for each school and keep them in separate folders to avoid confusion. Remember that you can apply for schools you can’t afford, and apply for scholarships and financial aid in those cases. It’s never a bad idea to try. In generalities most universities will ask for the following:
o   An admission essay—it is ok to use the same basic idea for multiple schools
o   Letters of recommendation from teachers
o   Academic transcript
o   You may even include an academic resume
o   FAFSA form and any scholarship requests
o   SAT and/or ACT scores
o   College Admission test
o   List of extracurricular activities (be sure to provide information about any leadership roles

After submission

Know that while some colleges will contact you very quickly after your submission, colleges with a high application rate could wait months before they alert you of your status. However, you should receive either an email or letter alerting you that your application has been received. If you are lacking this notice, it is OK to contact the school to make sure.

While you’re waiting, continue focusing on doing well in school. The last semester does matter. You can even take this time to get ahead. If there is a subject you feel you need a bit of help with to be college ready, you could consider hiring a tutor. The Tutoring Center is here for you.
