Stay Productive This Summer With a Routine

For many students, summer break means relaxing, sleeping in, and doing nothing. At the end of the summer, they may feel disappointed that they didn't accomplish anything and are already on their way back to classes. To ensure your child has a great break, help them create a routine that includes the following things.

Learn Responsibility

The summer is a great time for your child to learn to be more responsible for themselves. This means that if they want a full day to be productive, they'll have to set an alarm and get up at a reasonable hour. They should also shower, brush their teeth, have breakfast, and get ready for what they have planned. If they have chores to do, they should also get these out of the way so that they can focus on what they have planned for the day. If your child is trying to earn some extra cash, a summer job is a great option that will teach them responsibility. If they set a goal to read a certain number of books this break, it'll be up to them to get it done. Teach them how to plan for these things and how to create a schedule to get it all done.

Get Active

It's important that your child gets outdoors and participates in some physical activity during the summer. It's easy to sit on the couch all day, but this won't be good for them. Encourage them to go outside and play with friends, go for a bike ride at the park together, or head out on a fun hike. They should include at least one physical activity in their daily routine.

Have Some Fun

Finally, summer shouldn't be one long chore, so encourage your child to also have fun. They should make time in their day to do things they like and things they want to get better at. For example, if your child wants to master yoga this summer, look for a class that will be fun for them. If they've always wanted to learn to paint, now is a great time to get started. Whatever it is they want to try, be encouraging, and let them have some fun.
