When Should You Start Studying for the SAT?

With the SAT coming up soon, students and their parents wonder when it would be best to start studying. Even though many teenagers have plans to relax for the summer, adding an hour or two of SAT prep to each day can reduce stress and emergency studying. Most SAT tutors suggest that students start to study three to four months before their SAT. Starting early can give them enough time to get familiar with the exam, do some practice tests and refine knowledge on topics they might find challenging.

Familiarize Yourself With the Test

Even though the SAT’s questions change every time, it also is a standardized test, meaning that the structure is pretty similar year after year. Also, standardized tests are different from other tests completed during students’ schooling, so it’s worth taking some time to familiarize yourself with these styles of tests. The SAT comprises four sections: Reading, Writing and Language, Math, and an Essay. It contains 154 multiple choice questions, and the essay is optional. Each section has a set amount of time to complete it, which is also an excellent reason to practice.

Make Use of SAT Materials

The College Board, the organization that administers the SAT, provides students with guides and practice tests to help students study effectively. There are also many sites online that offer practice tests and study guides to help students do their best when it’s time to take the test. Remember that making a plan for your SAT studies and sticking to it can make a world of difference in the final results.
